To extend long-term care services to families and communities, the Hsinchu City Long-Term Care Management Center held the first session of its “Sweet Love for Long-Term Care, Healthy and Happy” outreach event at the Xinguang Long-Term Care Station on October 21. Acting Mayor Chiu Chen-Yuan personally attended the event, engaging with seniors through games, singing, and dancing, while promoting long-term care services, health knowledge, and nutritional awareness.
Acting Mayor Chiu noted that Taiwan has officially entered a super-aged society, with over 4.6 million people aged 65 and above, accounting for roughly 20% of the national population. In Hsinchu City, there are about 72,000 seniors, representing approximately 15.8% of the local population. Although the city’s average population age is younger than in other cities, the municipal government spares no effort in advancing long-term care initiatives. To address future demand and diverse challenges, the city actively promotes Long-Term Care 3.0, aiming to build age-friendly communities and healthcare systems. Building on the principles of Long-Term Care 2.0, which emphasize community-based, person-centered, and continuous care, the city continues to expand care resources, strengthen family support, and improve professional service coordination. As of October, this year (2025), Hsinchu City has established 12 A-level integrated service centers, 143 B-level service units, and 54 C-level sites, creating a continuous care model that integrates home, community, institutional, and medical services along with social welfare resources.
Acting Mayor Chiu also explained that to provide comprehensive physical, mental, and spiritual care for seniors, the city plans to expand community dining sites to 90 by the end of the year. In addition, programs such as the “Subsidy for Complete Dentures for Seniors” and “Free Health Checkups for the Elderly” are being promoted. The city also increased the Elderly Care Card points from 600 to 800 per month to provide seniors with more support and convenience. These initiatives reflect Mayor Kao Hung-An’s policy goals of “Well-being for All Ages” and “Safe and Healthy,” continuing the city’s efforts to build a friendly and happy age-friendly city.
