2026 Hsinchu New Year Lantern Festival Kicks Off on Feb 14! Cute “Rody” Lights Up Dongmen Gate
To welcome the arrival of 2026, the Hsinchu City Government is launching its annual signature Spring Festival event, “2026 Hsinchu New Year Festival – Rody Welcomes the New Year.” Teaming up with Rody the Bouncing Horse, a globally beloved toy known for its therapeutic charm, this year’s event brings a dynamic and playful visual experience. Citizens and visitors are invited to explore the city during the holiday season and immerse themselves in Hsinchu’s vibrant energy and festive blessings. According to Director-General Lin Yu-Chih of the City Marketing Department, the festival will officially open on February 14 and run for 23 days, featuring dazzling displays around Dongmen Gate, the Moat, and Hsinchu Park. People from across Taiwan are warmly welcomed to celebrate in Hsinchu and enjoy a unique fusion of light, art, and culture.
 
Mayor Kao Hung-An stated that this year’s theme centers on “leaping forward,” with Rody’s bouncing and running motions symbolizing Hsinchu’s continuous momentum and self-driven progress. The cheerful imagery also reflects a fresh and hopeful start to the new year. The event’s main visual design incorporates local icons such as Dongmen Gate and the Moat, bridging Hsinchu’s historical roots with its evolving cultural identity. The adorable Rody blends seamlessly into the cityscape, presenting a new image of Hsinchu, showing a new image of Hsinchu that is playful yet full of strength.
 
Director-General Lin also noted that this year’s lantern festival features a main lantern and eight Rody-themed lantern installations scattered across key locations in the city. Visitors are encouraged to take evening strolls through the streets and uncover delightful surprises around every corner. The lantern displays will remain open starting February 14, with additional events launching throughout the Lunar New Year period to keep the joyful spirit alive.
